The best way to bring people together is through kindness. To stand united as a country every individual must choose to be kind even when they disagree.

In this week’s blog there are seven steps to making kindness a way of life.

I Am Kind

Kindness matters. When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose to be kind. It’s your ego that needs to be right, not your soul. Kindness is as kindness does, and it always does the right thing.

Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

ACTION STEPS

Kindness is a virtue that makes the world a better place. One act of kindness has been known to spread from one person to the next through the power of positivity. Live from your heart and you will naturally be kindhearted.

Every time you do what you say you're going to do you are building integrity with yourself and creating trust with others. You’re being kind when you honor your word because it means that what you say matters.

Kindness comes from a generosity of spirit. Your body, mind, heart and spirit have everything you need to thrive in this world. This realization allows you to naturally share your abundance with others. Being kind and generous is how you make a positive difference in the world.

Choose to be kind to yourself. The more you treat yourself with kindness the easier it will be to show kindness towards others. Remember to fill yourself up with uplifting thoughts and feelings so that being kind is part of your natural expression. Make sure that your self-talk is rooted in kindness.

Show kindness to your body. When it's tired, rest; when it needs nourishment, feed it healthy whole foods; when it feels tense, relax; when it gets sick, boost your immune system; when it feels anxious, breathe deeply; and when it needs energy, go outside and move your body while connecting with the beauty of Mother Nature.

Be kind to animals. When we see videos of animals being rescued in the wild or from shelters our hearts are moved by the kindness of humans. We imagine how the animal must feel when its life is saved or protected, and it usually expresses its appreciation in ways that open our hearts even more. When you see kindness in action your brain releases the bonding chemical oxytocin that also boosts your immune system.

Be kind to family, friends, co-workers and strangers. You never know what a random act of kindness will do for someone or how it will inspire them to pay it forward. Acts of kindness change lives. If you're giving kindness it changes your life as well as the recipients and when you’re on the receiving end, your life will never be the same.
